The Algebraic Geometry Dictionary for Beginners

چکیده

This paper is a simple summary of the first most basic definitions in Algebraic Geometry as they are presented in Dummit and Foote ([1]), with a focus on establishing a dictionary between algebra and geometry. In particular this dictionary helps in visualizing certain computations that take place in polynomial rings. Among these are decomposing ideals in a manner analogous to prime factorization, and determining when coordinate rings are integrally closed.

DeepAlgebra - An Outline of a Program

We outline a program in the area of formalization of mathematics to automate theorem proving in algebra and algebraic geometry. We propose a construction of a dictionary between automated theorem provers and (La)TeX exploiting syntactic parsers. We describe its application to a repository of human-written facts and definitions in algebraic geometry (The Stacks Project). We use deep learning tec...

An Inequality for Adjoint Rational Surfaces

We generalize an inequality for convex lattice polygons – aka toric surfaces – to general rational surfaces. Our collaboration started when the second author proved an inequality for algebraic surfaces which, when translated via the toric dictionary into discrete geometry, yields an old inequality by Scott [5] for lattice polygons. In a previous article [2], we were then able to refine this est...

Ideal Databases

From algebraic geometry perspective database relations are succinctly defined as Finite Varieties. After establishing basic framework, we give analytic proof of Heath’s theorem from Database Dependency theory. Next, we leverage Algebra-Geometry dictionary and focus on algebraic counterparts of finite varieties – [polynomial] Ideals. It is well known that intersection and sum of ideals are latti...

Algebraic Statistics in Model Selection

We develop the necessary theory in computational algebraic geometry to place Bayesian networks into the realm of algebraic statistics. We present an algebra–statistics dictionary focused on statistical modeling. In particular, we link the notion of effective dimension of a Bayesian network with the notion of algebraic dimension of a variety. We also obtain the independence and non–independence ...

Anomalies, Dimensional Regularization and Noncommutative Geometry: Unfinished Draft

In this paper we show that the Breitenlohner-Maison prescription for treating the presence of chiral symmetry in Dimensional Regularization fits remarkably well with the framework of noncommutative geometry. In fact, it corresponds to taking the cup product of spectral triples, with a specific spectral triple Xz whose dimension spectrum is a single complex number z. We give a realization of Xz ...
